In a rural setting where there are limited resources for both financial and population centers, St. Joseph Mission School continues 95 years of inspiring the minds of children through Catholic education. Ninety percent of our students come from the Native American Pueblos of Acoma and Laguna with the rest coming from surrounding Spanish villages. Our school is located in a high poverty area; 85% of our students qualify for USDA free and reduced meals. In the current environment, St. Joseph School offers a safe and nurturing realm of learning and exposure to other cultures and places. Our purpose is to introduce students to a world larger than themselves and to guide them into becoming productive, responsible and energetic participants in that world. In building their life skills, we help prepare them to create their own story arcs and to start their own heroic journeys with confidence and purpose. These journeys will create and inspire courageous leaders in an increasingly complex world. Many St. Joseph's graduates are current or past leaders in state government as well as within their own tribe or pueblo. Others have become professionals in the legal, medical, and educational professions. St. Joseph Mission School’s strategy motivates students to reach their full potential with learning as the underlying principle.
Since 1923, St. Joseph Mission School shares the gospel of hope through Faith, Academics, Culture, Environment and Service. Through our Catholic Faith and local traditions we strive to encourage the love of learning with respect and dignity for all, and help students develop their skills to become courageous leaders in our local communities and beyond.
