The need-based tuition scholarship fund serves families that deeply want an excellent education for their children but are unable to afford it. The families served by the program are almost all racial and ethnic minorities from Alameda County, California. Most are highly committed and involved working parents who travel hours per day (from Livermore, Hayward and Union City) for the sole purpose of having their children attend St. Joseph school. Many recipients live in areas with overcrowded poorly performing public schools. For parents, enrolling their children at St. Joseph is a significant improvement to their children’s quality of life. The smaller class sizes, supportive community, increased individual attention, learning support program if needed, and excellent academics at St. Joseph are reasons our families identify for enrollment. Saint Joseph provides a longer school day, 8am to 3pm, then public schools and a quality before/after school program from 7:00am until 6:00pm that provides vital safe affordable support to the long days of working parents.
St. Joseph school, affiliated with the Dominican sisters in historic Mission San Jose, is an academically high performing, service oriented, pre k to 8th grade school serving highly diverse families from the outskirts of Silicon Valley, California. Our school was founded in 1960 by the Dominican sisters and is dedicated to providing a strong Catholic religious formation and an excellent academic education for elementary school students. Our school’s academic excellence is reflected in our students’ test scores and successful admission rates to nationally recognized private high schools. STAR test scores of our students in all grades and subjects are regularly above grade level and at the top end of scores in entire the United States. Our students are routinely admitted to their first choice of private High Schools, many nationally recognized, and are frequently placed into advanced and honors classes. Students at all levels make steady academic progress year after year and 18% of our students participate in our robust learning support program. Central to our mission is providing a high quality private education to all those who seek it regardless of ability to pay. About 20% of our families receive need-based tuition scholarship.
