The Street Food Institute has developed a unique training program offering students the opportunity to learn about operating their own food business. The program focuses on management techniques required for operating a variety of food businesses. The business models discussed in the program are mobile vending, packaged foods for retail and wholesale sales, bakery, café and small restaurant, vending at farmer’s markets and other similar venues as well as catering. Throughout the program students work to develop their own food business concepts and learn about cost analysis, pricing, market analysis, marketing, financing and budgeting for food business, accounting for food businesses, small business ownership, and other related topics. Students also can test recipes and do practical, real world cost analysis using current market data.
The Street Food Institute (SFI) is an entrepreneur-focused and workforce training culinary program. We are dedicated to inspiring the success of small, local businesses in New Mexico and training individuals interested in pursuing a career in the culinary industry. The combination of classroom theory and a hands-on apprenticeship provides our students with a unique and engaging experience that prepares them for success in business and the work environment.
