STORYTELLERS & WRITERS is a quality, dual language, dual culture after school and summer program for elementary and middle school students who could benefit from an alternative learning program that helps them with Language Arts, English acquisition skills, and with life skills in general. It addresses the need for English Language Learners (ELL) and ESL students (English as a Second Language) to get extra help in English writing, reading and speaking skills so that they can do well in school.
STORYTELLERS & WRITERS also recognizes the importance of students maintaining and strengthening their home language skills in reading, speaking, and writing, as well as the importance of students appreciating and creating a strong identity with both their native culture and the American culture. Storytellers & Writers has 3 components: Storytelling Writing, and Performance. (StorytellersAndWriters.org)
Objectives for Storytellers & Writers programs are to work with New Mexico's student immigrant population to: address learning gaps in meeting Common Core Standards so that students can achieve better grades in school; deepen students' sense of identity and purpose; value and strengthen Spanish skills; teach students to inquire, imagine, and use their creative thinking skills to problem solve; work collaboratively in a group; develop resiliency and strengthen social-emotional learning.
The mission of Transformational Learning & Coaching, Inc. is to provide innovative educational programs that use the arts to reach academic goals and encourage positive transformation and enhance quality of life for underprivileged youth or young people disadvantaged in any way.
