Two Worlds is a contemporary performing arts organization operated by Native Americans, for the cultural development of New Mexico’s Indigenous community. It is the only Native American performing arts organization in Albuquerque, and is the longest-standing organization of its kind in New Mexico.
Our current Ensemble program is a two-year performing arts skill-building program with 9 participants – six artists form the Native Ensemble, and three make up the Native Women’s Ensemble. Each ensemble member will learn to produce original performances which advocate awareness of political and social topics affecting the Native community. These aspiring artists have attended weekly rehearsals in preparation for their debut performance in November 2019 which will incorporate a multimedia aspect, seeking to engage all five senses to encapsulate the Native American Experience. The ensembles have also led an acting workshop open to all community members, and they'll lead more workshops in the future.
Our approach is twofold: by connecting audience members with serious issues affecting Indigenous communities, we can inspire them to think critically, discuss, and advocate for social change, while also enabling the artists within Two Worlds to build their skills. Through our programs, we hope to create an expanding network of empowered Native artists and audiences who will continue the important work of provoking thought, facilitating discussion, and creating positive change for underrepresented and underserved Native communities.
Two Worlds is on a mission to empower Native communities through performance art that is of, by and for Native Americans.
