UNM-Taos will strive to provide its students, emerging businesses and community members a comprehensive program to assist in the economic development of the Northern New Mexico region. The UNM-Taos Center of Business Innovation will provide a platform for this economic development by offering the community access to career services and workforce training, as well as entrepreneurial services and digital media facilities that will support clients in developing and enhancing communications and marketing, creating websites, marketing content and social media resources that will help accelerate small-business growth during the critical start-up phase and encourage long-term success for their businesses.
The center will operate as a workforce development site, where local workers can obtain new skills base on the requirements of growing fields and emerging markets. The facility will be equipped to support digital media production, information technology, distance communications services and business/consumer services and will provide an opportunity for constituents to engage a state-of-the-art digital broadcasting theater where presentations and instruction can be shared to both live and online participants around the globe.
As part of the downtown UNM-Taos facilities, the Center for Business Innovation is well situated to share its resources to local small business members and our own programs in the technology and health care areas. The center will be supported and provide pipeline opportunities for UNM-Taos’s newly created Digital Media Arts (DMA) academic program and will provide numerous opportunities to both clients and students to engage media production in Northern New Mexico. Curriculums oriented toward entrepreneurship as well as career technical education will be developed to further develop the outcomes for DMA programming related to business and workforce development and will align with programs at the secondary level, with an appropriate partnership with the Taos Municipal Schools. Academic Courses to be offered via the UNM-Taos Digital Media Arts program for upcoming semesters will include topics courses in 3D Design for Digital 3D Printing and Digital Media for Social Networking, among others.
