This program is an ongoing project at Santa Fe High School's South Campus with their Academy for Sustainability Education. Students learn how to make ecobricks by stuffing plastic bottles and cartons full of plastic. Next, they learn of ways that ecobricks can be integrated into structures and buildings. Materials for a simple structure are discovered in the surrounds, and upcycled into a bench.
Upcycle Santa Fe is dedicated to the holistic reformation of current waste management systems. We envision a new system based upon "upcycling" common waste streams into infrastructure needs, such as appropriate technologies and green building materials. Our main focus has been on the repurposing of plastic waste into high-density insulation materials.
