Indigenous Youth Cultural Exchange
Yakanal - Indigenous Youth Cultural Exchange/

Indigenous Youth Cultural Exchange

Yakanal joins the words for corn in the Keres and Yucatec Mayan languages, honoring sacred bonds with our ancestral food. The effort rekindles ancient relationships that thrived for millennia on migrations, the exchange of knowledge, and the gifts of the land. Youth participants become aware of and envision their role within the struggles for self-determination by indigenous peoples – experiencing, reflecting, acting, and celebrating. Yakanal nurtures leadership qualities in youth and sustainable living practices in all participants.
