Every day, nature demonstrates its power and our vulnerability. Disasters strip people of their essentials—shelter, food and warmth—and larger events, such as tornadoes and hurricanes, can ravage entire cities and even regions. And every day, 24/7/365, the American Red Cross assists people who face disasters. We secure food and lodging for the family whose home has been struck by fire. We provide cleanup supplies to the couple whose basement has flooded. We give children who lost everything immediate psychological care and, often, toys to call their own.
The Red Cross mission is to alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies. We fulfill this mission, in part, by helping people prepare for, respond to, recover from disasters, large and small, nationwide and throughout New Mexico. We respond to more home fires than any other type of disaster, fires that strike anywhere, anytime, robbing families of their homes and personal belongings.
In New Mexico, we have prevented and relieved suffering in the face of emergencies for more than 100 years, serving our neighbors in big cities and in rural communities. Wherever they were, they had one thing in common: They knew where to turn when disasters happened. The public trusts the Red Cross to help, counting on us to be at disaster survivors’ sides at a moment’s notice. We are proud to honor that commitment.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
