Stepping Stones mobile unit goes to the homes of children, teens and families who are coping with a life-threatening illness. The Stepping Stones team traveled 184 miles and devoted 75 hours to families in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, providing support to 38 youth and adults in 2018.
Mission Statement: When a child’s parent or sibling dies, there are usually many adults who want to help that child. But they don’t know how. Children and teenagers who are grieving usually don’t know what they need, either. Their lives have been turned upside down, and, at the same time, so have their feelings and thoughts.
That’s where Gerard’s House comes in. The mission of Gerard’s House is to provide safe spaces for grieving children, youth and families, where healing happens through acceptance and peer support. Whether a parent or other loved one has died, disappeared, been incarcerated, deported or separated by borders, we are here for kids, teenagers and their families. One of the most powerful things we offer is peer support in a safe, nurturing space.
