Habitat for Humanity of Taos is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical, nonprofit Christian housing ministry building decent, affordable housing in partnership with people in need. Our focus is building new affordable homes for qualified low-income applicants, but we also offer other programs such as A Brush With Kindness, Aging in Place/Home Repair, and Weatherization which focus more on repairs and rehabilitation of owner-occupied low-income homes. With all programs, applicants must meet income guidelines.
.Volunteers provide most of the labor. Individual and corporate donors provide funding and building materials. Partner families put 500 or more hours of "sweat equity"into their homes and the homes of others. Habitat houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged. Mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Habitat for Humanity, to finance additional houses. Also runs a ReStore thrift store in El Prado.
The ReStore is a thrift-store type shop and material recycling center that sells new and used materials to the public at below-retail prices; we have a wide assortment of goods - everything but clothing! Proceeds help pay for HFHT’s home building program
