Early Intervention Program

Early intervention provides activities and strategies for families to use to promote their child's development throughout the day. This family-centered program is for children from birth to age 3 years who have or are at risk for developmental disability or delays.  We work directly with the children to decrease the impact of developmental delays or disabilities.  We work with their family members to improve communication, address challenges, provide specialized services and therapies, and link families to other specialized services they may need.

Our family-centered early childhood services are provided in the most natural environment for the child and family, which usually is the family’s home.  Services can also take place at a babysitter’s home, day care center, or other community location chosen by the family.

  • Our services focus on the strengths of the child and family.
  • All children eligible for early intervention services receive a developmental evaluation and ongoing assessment of their development.
  • We offer developmental services, speech and language therapy, and motor therapies (physical therapy and occupational therapy).
  • Each child/family is assigned to a service coordinator who assists them in all aspects of early intervention services, which includes:
    • Coordinating evaluations and assessments;
    • Creating a specific service plan for the family, and then reviewing and evaluating it over time;
    • Helping families find the right service providers;
    • Coordinating and monitoring therapies, developmental services, and other needed specialized services;
    • Informing families about advocacy services;
    • Coordinating with medical and health providers; and
    • Creating a transition plan when the child is ready to “graduate” from the early intervention program.
