This program serves youth living in the Land Grants of Manzano, Tajique and Chilili. The program currently runs one day a week for 6-8 weeks during the summer months. Artists and assistants from the Land Grants communities also participate in this program. This program is for children ranging in ages from 8-15. Children ages 5,6, and 7 must be accompanied by and adult the entire period of the class.
This summer the participants will lear to create painted brown paper buffalo hides while they learn about the Plains Indians, create personalized shadow boxes with the assistance of Nationally know Albuquerque artist, Goldie Garcia, customize old school hand-screened t-shirts designed by the Pop Artist Craig, design symbols and select images then decoupaged onto wood plaques, and back by popular demand items made from duct tape.
The Manzano Mountain Art Council (MMAC) works to showcase the talents of our mountain and valley communities or rural central New Mexico, encourage connections with nature, people and cultural history, inspire and nurture youth, foster creativity, celebrate diversity and drive economic opportunity. The Manzano Mountain Art Council (MMAC) conducts art education and enrichment programs for youth in schools and Land Grant communities, supports the economic development of the area by offering business opportunities for artists and performers, holds free or inexpensive visual and performing arts programs, sponsors community festivals and events, and partners with organizations to enhance the development of work-related skills, literacy levels, environmental sustainability, and economic growth of the community.
