Paws and Stripes offers a unique and extensive approach to training service dogs which differentiates it from other organizations focusing on the same or similar populations. The training is structured so enrolled veterans participate in every element of the training with the dog from day one. Our unique and challenging 12-month curriculum requires hard work and dedication. Every Veteran completes 15+ hours of class work, community service, mental health support, and homework each week. They attend mental health counseling and a one-hour psyche-educational class twice a month. Our staff show veterans how to train his/her rescue dog to become a medical tool personalized to their specific needs. Family members become better equipped to share their roles as caregivers with a service dog and how to identify community opportunities for future wellness and ongoing care beyond Paws and Stripes.
Paws and Stripes’s mission is to provide animal-assisted therapy and other mental health services to disabled military veterans and their families living with service-connected trauma. Saving two lives at a time.
