eSTEM Program

To prepare Santa Fe Public School District students for growing segments of our economy that require Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) proficiency, SFPS is developing the eSTEM Program to coordinate curriculum opportunities in environmental sustainability and to support SFPS’ energy and water conservation initiatives. The leadership at SFPS recognizes that our community’s ability to compete in the national economy largely depends on how well today’s youth are prepared for college and careers in STEM. SFPS plans to enhance existing K-12 curriculum by: 1) identifying opportunities in curriculum to incorporate STEM concepts and skills to understand and address real-world challenges such as climate change, drought, threatened and endangered species, waste management, and pollution; 2) providing organized instructional resources and materials to teachers; 3) coordinating relevant field trips and recruiting local experts for both in-class and on-site teaching; and 4) increasing student involvement in existing SFPS programs to conserve energy and promote renewable energy, conserve water use and promote water recycling, reduce waste generation, and promote material recycling. The SFPS eSTEM  Program is endorsed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Climate Change Leadership Institute.
