The Kewa House Emergency Youth Shelter is a temporary home for youth from any tribe or pueblo in New Mexico who are between the ages of 0 and 17 years old. The goal of the program is to provide trauma informed evidence based residential programming for behavioral health treatment. This treatment is identified for young people experiencing mental and/or sexual abuse, abandonment, neglect, substance abuse or other related conditions requiring temporary out-of-home placement. Treatment will include traditional educational curriculums focused on farming, raising animals, dancing, and cultural arts as behavioral health intervention. Treatment also includes community peer support workers engaged in treatment planning, teaching of daily activities and life skills, and an onsite therapist to do therapy intervention and assessment with clients when needed.
Santo Domingo Pueblo, also known as Kewa, has been one of the central Pueblo communities in New Mexico and the homelands to many people for thousands of years. Their ancestral ties can be traced back to Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon ancestors.
