This program is for the low income homeowner. A grant allows WSHFH to go into a person's home and bring it up to code. There is no repayment with this program. The main criteria is you must own your home and the land the home sets on. You must also be utilizing this home as your primary residency. If you are approved for this program there will be a 15 year lien that gets placed on your property. As long as you comply with the agreement; must maintain homeowners and flood insurance for the duration of the lien. You cannot sell the home or you will be required to repay a portion of the grant back depending upon how long you have been in the home once you try to sell it.
Once the lien has been fulfilled, you submit the agreement to the funding source and they will mail you a release of lien.
This program is amazing for individuals who are on a fixed income, elders who need modifications to a home due to illness or changes in health and any homeowners that needs upgrades on their home that fall below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Otero County.
