Animal Humane’s Learn Humane program strives to bring humane education to New Mexico's children and adults through engaging, inspiring and enjoyable presentations, tours and camp programs.
Humane education, a form of character education, encourages the development of our youth's compassion, kindness, and empathy toward other living beings, and their critical thinking skills through lessons about animal protection, environmental ethics and social justice. Humane education can foster compassion and respect for all living beings, while simultaneously empowering our learners to discover tools they can use to make the world a better and more just place for each other and our non-human global companions. Our Learn Humane programs provide empathy education to students from Pre K through 12th grade throughout the school year through free educational presentations on animal related topics for classrooms in Albuquerque and surrounding communities. Lesson topics can range from basics like being safe around pets by reading another’s emotions, to understanding the similar needs pets and people share, to more advanced topics grounded in animal welfare and social justice.
Our Camp Humane program also offers this education in fun-packed, week-long summer camps for children ages 5 - 13, with scholarships available to students from APS Title 1 schools.
The mission of Animal Humane New Mexico is to support and improve the lives of New Mexico's cats and dogs through sheltering, adoptions, humane education and veterinary services.
