The Dona Ana County Humane Society offers vouchers for senior citizens who wish to adopt a pet from the Las Cruces municipal animal shelter.
The vouchers come with the added incentive of free dog training and a bigger discount on senior dog adoptions.
The Pets for Seniors Program helps pay the fees to the shelter for people age 60 and older who adopt a companion dog or cat _ including pre-adoption veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgery. There is no income limit to qualify.
The voucher is worth $50 off of the ASCMV's adoption fee, which is $75 for dogs and $50 for cats. ASCMV pets are all microchipped, in addition to their vaccines and spay/neuter surgery.
There is an additional $25 discount for seniors who choose to adopt a senior dog (age 5 or older.)
