New Mexico Coalition for Literacy

The mission of the New Mexico Coalition for Literacy is to coordinate, expand, and enhance New Mexico programs so adults can read and write to achieve their goals. The NMCL provides operating assistance grants to literacy programs; instructional materials; the New Mexico Resource Center special lending library; literacy tutor, board, and administrator training; technical assistance for local programs and their boards; Professional Program Directors’ Association; publications and reports; regional workshop conferences and annual meeting; recognition of students, tutors, and board members; networking for literacy programs; resource development; and public awareness.

New Mexico Coalition for Literacy

The mission of the New Mexico Coalition for Literacy is coordinate, expand, and enhance New Mexico programs so adults can read and write to achieve their goals.

The NMCL works to:

  • Increase public awareness about the cause of adult literacy and eradicate the stigma associated with illiteracy;
  • Develop resources for local, community-based adult literacy programs;
  • Support legislation to fund adult literacy programs;
  • Establish networks to coordinate resources, exchange information, and raise funds;
  • Act as a clearing house for adult literacy data and information;
  • Enhance and expand local community based literacy programs through capacity building and new program development;
  • Provide consultants, trainers, and technical assistance to local literacy programs; and
  • Distribute funds and other resources to adult literacy programs throughout New Mexico.
