Not Forgotten Outreach’s “Military Family Respite Center” is a place of calm, peace and tranquility, allowing Military Families to address their mental health and reintegration needs, thru peer to peer counseling, with others “who have walked in their shoes" after returning from war.
Military Families will have the opportunity to share strategies for overcoming obstacles while building the bonds of fellowship and friendship, physical exercise in the form of farm work and mental quietness., while enjoying the neighs of horses, bleating of goats, clucking of the chickens and the wind blowing through the trees
The “Respite Center”, is located on 2 acres, with secluded tranquility and breathtaking mountain views. The 1,300 sq. ft. casita, is utilized as office space and a computer lab and tool storage and is home to Taos Veterans Farmers Sustainable Farm. The location is utilized as an alcohol and drug free central hub for Military Families in Taos.
The “Respite Center” when completed will also include a computer lab, arts & crafts room.
NFO hosts a Wednesday night dinner – In 2015, NFO initiated a new concept of inviting Military Families and volunteers to enjoy a get together evening. Each week a different Veteran or volunteer cooks for 25- 35 individuals. Commodities for the dinner are provided by NFO.
Not Forgotten Outreach’s mission is to motivate Military, Veterans & their Families and Gold Star families of fallen heroes to participate in recreational, therapeutic and farming activities in order to facilitate the healing process and reintegration challenges. The vision of Not Forgotten Outreach (NFO) is to create a place where veterans and their families reach deeply within themselves and the soil to make themselves more peaceful and productive in our communities.
