The Montezuma-Cortez school readiness program is a quality improvement initiative that serves preschool classrooms in southwest Colorado. Quality improvement is measured using the Qualistar Rating scale which rates the following areas: learning environment, family partnerships, ratio and group size, teacher training and education. a School Readiness mentor coaches preschool directors and classroom teachers on quality improvement. Additional grant money is used to improve quality in the classrooms. The Pinon Project: The Tree House Early Learning Center serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. licensed in the State of Colorado and are a Qualistar rating of 3 (out of 4). We contract with Head Start and the Cortez School District-Colorado Pre-school Program. Each classroom offers a developmentally approprate curriclum based on the creative curriculum check points.
The Piñon Project Family Resource Center is a nonprofit organization that originated in 1994 as a result of a community grassroots effort under the Healthy Communities Initiative. Through the initiative, Montezuma County engaged in a process of creating a statement of vision for our community’s future. The Piñon Project is a member of The Family Resource Center Association (FRCA)'s unique network of 24 family resource centers that work with the entire family to help them become more self-reliant in areas that affect their family stability; including parenting, health, education, employment, housing, and financial management.
